Ebonyi Police Confirms Killing Of Four, With 10 Suspects Arrested

The Ebonyi State Police Command has confirmed the gruesome murder of four persons in an attack in Okporojo Community, Oso Edda, in Edda Local Government Area of Ebonyi State South East Nigeria.

The Police Public Relations Officer of the Command, SP, Joshua Ukandu who confirmed the attack to AIT in a telephone conversation, says 10 suspects have been arrested and security tactical team deployed to the area.

Ukandu says among the four victims who were beheaded are three males and one female in the attack that occurred Thursday evening.

Reports say unidentified armed men ambushed the community late Thursday afternoon, setting houses on fire, With indications that many were killed and abducted during the attack.

Also, over five persons were said to have been allegedly beheaded and their heads taken away by the assailants.

In a viral video circulating online, houses were seen set on fire, as the community called on the state government and security agencies for help.

According to sources, the violence stemmed from a decades-old dispute over a specific tract of land at the boundary of Oso Edda in Edda Local Government Area and Amasiri in Afikpo Local Government Area. Both communities claim ancestral ownership.

But, 24hrs after the incident, the Ebonyi State Government has reacted to the attack incident directing security agents to carry out thorough investigation into the circumstances that led to the recent attack on the people of Oso Edda.

The Governor in a press statement by his chief press secretary, Monday Uzor, described the attack as barbaric and flagrant disregard to the sanctity of human life calling on communities in the state to always embrace peace as no development will thrive in an atmosphere of violence and destruction.
