Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, has called on residents of the state to plant at least one tree in commemoration of the 50th anniversary of the creation of the state.

The Governor made the call during the official launch of a tree planting exercise organised as part of activities marking the state’s golden Jubilee. The event took place at the newly named Golden Jubilee Park in the state capital.

Created on February 3, 1976, Bauchi State is celebrating its 50th anniversary with a statewide tree planting campaign across the 20 local government areas. It is a symbolic campaign to sustain life, continuity, hope, and renewal.

While launching the initiative, Governor Bala Mohammed described the past 50 years of Bauchi State as a period marked by growth, resilience, sacrifice, and progress. He says the tree planting initiative aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals 13, which calls for urgent action to combat climate change.

As the exercise takes place across all the 20 local government areas, the Governor directed council chairmen and traditional rulers to ensure the proper nurturing and survival of the newly planted trees for the benefit of the environment and future generations.

Governor Mohammed also warned residents against illegal cutting of trees and urging officials to do more in educating the people on actions that will mitigate the effects of soil degradation and other environmental challenges.

Meanwhile, President Bola Tinubu has reaffirmed his administration’s resolve to continue protecting democratic values and supporting initiatives that promote social cohesion, inclusiveness, and equitable opportunities for all citizens.

President Tinubu gave the assurance in Akure on Tuesday during the grand finale of activities marking the 50th anniversary of the creation of Ondo State.

The Ondo State Sports Complex in Akure, the state capital, came alive as it hosted dignitaries from all walks of life, including past and present leaders, for the Golden Jubilee celebration of the Sunshine State.

Each of the 18 local government areas of the state thrilled the audience with cultural displays unique to their heritage, showcasing the rich and diverse traditions of the people of Ondo State.

President Tinubu, represented by the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, described the celebration as an opportunity to deepen unity, strengthen democracy, and expand opportunities for all citizens.

The President assured that the Federal Government remains committed to supporting Ondo State in harnessing opportunities, improving infrastructure, strengthening security, and empowering communities for sustainable growth and development.

Ondo State Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, said his administration would continue to pursue people-centred, inclusive, and sustainable development policies aimed at the total transformation of the state.

As Ondo State marks its Golden Jubilee, there is optimism that the future of the Sunshine State will be shaped by the creativity, discipline, and courage of its people.
