Kano State Governor, Abba Yusuf

The Governor of Kano State, Abba Yusuf has expressed deep sorrow over the loss of soldiers and security personnel who laid down their lives in the line of duty, describing their deaths as an irreplaceable sacrifice made for the safety of others.

Governor Yusuf stated this while commiserating with the Nigerian Army and the families of members of the Joint Task Force who lost their lives while confronting bandits in Shanono Local Government Area of the state, with the donation of five million naira to each of the families.

By the end of 2025, parts of Kano’s northern corridor, including Shanono, Tsanyawa and Gwarzo local government areas—bordering Katsina State—had become hotspots for banditry and kidnapping.

This development led to the establishment of a forward operational base and the deployment of troops to prevent the incursion of criminal elements into Kano State, leading to the death of some soldiers and members of the civilian Joint Task during operations in the area.

Gov. Yusuf, represented by the Director-General, Special Services, presented the sum of five million naira to each of the affected families as support to ease their immediate hardship during this condolence visit.

The Commander, 3 Brigade, Nigerian Army, Brigadier General Ahmed Tukur, described the loss of his men as painful but inevitable in the course of military operations, while appreciating the governor for his timely intervention.

Despite the losses recorded, reports from the theatre of operations indicate sustained successes by troops against bandits.

Members of the public have again been urged to support security agencies with credible intelligence to ensure lasting peace in the state.
