The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) says it has concluded work on the timetable and schedule of activities for the 2027 General Election, reaffirming its readiness to deliver a credible electoral process despite delays in amendments to the Electoral Act by the National Assembly.

The Commission’s Chairman, Joash Amupitan, disclosed this during a meeting with Civil Society Organisations in Abuja, convened to brief stakeholders on upcoming elections in the Federal Capital Territory, the Ekiti and Osun governorship elections, and preparations toward the 2027 General Election.

Amupitan said INEC has already forwarded its recommendations on the proposed amendments to the Electoral Act to the National Assembly and is awaiting legislative action. He noted, however, that the timing of the amendments could affect certain aspects of the election schedule, explaining that while the timetable has been finalised, some activities may require adjustment depending on when the amended law is passed.

He assured stakeholders that INEC remains committed to conducting transparent and credible elections and will continue to operate strictly within the provisions of the existing legal framework until any new amendments are passed and signed into law.
