Kwara State Governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, on Thursday briefed President Bola Tinubu on the recent deadly attack in Kaiama Local Government Area of the state, expressing confidence that normalcy will soon be restored.
Speaking after a closed-door meeting with the President at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, the Governor said he also used the opportunity to thank President Tinubu for the swift response to the incident, particularly the approval of Operation Savannah Shield.
According to him, the security operation will play a critical role in deterring criminal elements and restoring peace to the affected communities.
Governor AbdulRazaq disclosed that the first commander of Operation Savannah Shield has already reported for duty in Ilorin, the state capital, and has commenced operations.
He added that President Tinubu has directed the Armed Forces to move decisively into the affected areas, clear out criminal elements, and ensure lasting peace and calm.
The Governor said the state government is relying on the military and other security agencies to carry out their mandate effectively and safeguard lives and property in the affected areas.
