Nigeria’s Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has deployed tactical, operational and intelligence assets to Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara State and neighbouring communities, following violent attack that police say has left 75 people confirmed dead.
In a statement issued in Abuja this Thursday, by the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Benjamin Hundeyin, the Police chief condemned the incident which occurred on Tuesday February 3, 2026, describing it as a tragic assault on innocent lives.
The IGP expressed condolences to the families of the victims, as well as the Kwara State Government and residents, while assuring that security forces have been directed to restore calm, strengthen security presence and prevent further violence.
Police say a full-scale manhunt has been launched for those responsible, with investigations underway and resources mobilised to ensure the perpetrators and their collaborators are identified, arrested and prosecuted.
The public is also urged to remain calm and support ongoing operations with credible information through the nearest police station or established police channels.
