The Anambra State Police Command has confirmed the killing of the President-General of Ogidi community, Chief Ikwuka Okoye, alongside another person whose identity has yet to be established.
The fatal incident occurred on Friday evening at the School Field, Ogidi. Preliminary reports suggest the attack may be linked to heightened tensions in the area following the recent arrest of a suspected cult figure by local security operatives.
However, community sources insist that the murder of the President-General is not connected to the earlier arrest and subsequent death of the suspected cultist, who was reportedly linked to a history of violent crimes, drug abuse, and other criminal activities.

The Police Public Relations Officer of the Command, Tochukwu Ikenga, said police operatives promptly responded to distress calls, secured the scene, and launched a full-scale investigation into the killings.
According to him, investigators are currently analysing eyewitness accounts and other intelligence leads in a bid to identify and apprehend those responsible.
The killings have plunged Ogidi community into mourning, while also raising fresh concerns over cult-related violence and the possibility of reprisal attacks targeting security personnel and community leaders.
