A devastating fire has swept through Wannune in Tarka Local Government Area, Benue State, destroying more than one hundred homes and forcing dozens of families into displacement. With entire livelihoods lost, residents are making urgent appeals for help.
Residents describe the blaze as sudden and baffling. The fire tore through large sections of Wannune, leaving a trail of destruction and rendering many families homeless.

One affected resident says his house was the first to ignite.
Despite swift efforts by neighbours to control the flames, the fire spread uncontrollably, wiping out property built over years in a matter of minutes. His family escaped with nothing and is now relying on support from the community.

Women in the area tell similar stories. Many were on their farms when the fire broke out, returning to find their homes, stored food, farm produce, and household items completely destroyed. With no shelter and few essentials left, the need for immediate assistance is growing.

In a show of solidarity, philanthropist Terver Tyav, a native of Tarka, has stepped in with relief items and financial support, bringing a measure of comfort to affected households.
As residents grapple with the scale of the loss, they are calling on government authorities, emergency agencies, and compassionate Nigerians to provide urgent relief and help put long-term measures in place to prevent future disasters.
