An Arik Air flight scheduled from Lagos to Port Harcourt was forced to divert early Wednesday following an engine-related incident mid-air.
Flight W3 740, operated with a Boeing 737-700 aircraft, was on approach into the Port Harcourt International Airport when the flight crew reported a loud noise emanating from the left engine.
In a statement issued by the Airline’s spokesperson, Banji Ola, the pilots promptly activated standard safety protocols and diverted the aircraft to Benin Airport as a precaution.
The aircraft landed safely in Benin, and all 80 passengers and crew disembarked without any injuries.
Arik Air says alternative arrangements are being coordinated to ensure passengers are conveyed to Port Harcourt.
The airline has expressed regret over the inconvenience caused and reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining the highest safety standards, as technical assessments into the incident are underway.
