Grief has once again enveloped the media community in Bauchi State as Channels Television has lost one of its dedicated staff, Kani Ben, nine days after a ghastly motor accident involving 13 journalists.
The accident occurred while the journalists were returning from covering North-East development projects in Yelwan Duguri, Alkaleri Local Government Area.
Kani Ben passed away in the early hours of Sunday at about 4 a.m. at the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital, where he had been receiving intensive care. He had undergone surgery following suspected spinal cord injuries sustained in the crash.
Colleagues describe Kani Ben as a hardworking and humble professional who served as a cameraman with Channels Television for about 13 years in Bauchi, which was his first posting with the station. Known for his simple and easy-going nature, he was regarded as a dependable team player who carried out his duties with dedication and quiet strength.
Kani Ben died on the line of duty while serving his organization. He is survived by his wife and two children.
His passing marks a painful reminder of the risks journalists face in the course of bringing stories to the public.
