Office of the National Security Adviser, ONSA says it has not procured, nor initiated any process to procure, thallium sulphate and has referred the allegation made by former Kaduna State Governor, Nasiru El-Rufai to the Department of State Services, DSS for investigation.
This position is contained in a letter written and signed by Brigadier-General O.M. Adesuyi, on behalf of the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, in response to El-Rufai”s petition.
El-Rufai had alleged that about 10 kilogrammes of thallium sulphate, which is a colourless, odourless and highly toxic substance, was being sourced from Poland.
In its response, ONSA states that the allegation has been formally referred to the DSS and that el-Rufai and any other persons with relevant information will be invited to provide evidence to assist a comprehensive investigation.
The letter, dated February 13, 2026, was eventually delivered to el-Rufai’s Abuja residence after an initial delay and received on his behalf by the head of security.
The matter has drawn wider attention following El-Rufai’s earlier claim during a television interview that he accessed an intercepted telephone conversation allegedly involving the National Security Adviser, an assertion that remains unverified.
