Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo

Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo has condemned the recent attack on members of the African Democratic Congress, describing the incident as an internal party crisis that escalated into violence.

In a statement personally issued Tuesday night and made available to journalists through his Chief Press Secretary, Patrick Ebojele, the governor expressed sympathy with the affected party members.

He described the incident as unfortunate, alleging that some elements exploited the state’s peaceful environment to perpetrate violence.

He said as peace-loving people, the importation of thugs and miscreants from outside the state under the guise of party politics remains totally condemned and will not be tolerated.”

Governor Okpebholo stressed that as Chief Security Officer of the state, he would not allow Edo to become a theatre of political conflict.

He noted that while the exact motive behind the attack remains unclear, there are concerns that it may have been aimed at tarnishing the state’s reputation as one of the most peaceful in the country.

The governor maintained that political competition should focus on performance, engagement, and earning public trust, not violence or blackmail.

He added that his administration welcomes constructive opposition and would not be intimidated by attempts to destabilize the state.

While sympathizing with the ADC, the governor advised the party to address what he described as internal disagreements rather than direct accusations outside its fold.

He also urged residents to remain calm and continue to uphold peace across the state.

Stating that Edo remains a peaceful state, and no one can take that away from the state.

Governor Okpebholo further warned political actors against fomenting unrest, insisting that parties must resolve internal disputes before organizing events.

He called on the police and other security agencies to remain vigilant and closely monitor political activities, reaffirming his administration’s commitment to protecting lives and property.
