The Benue State Government has confirmed the death of 10 health workers in a recent lassa fever outbreak,5 were medical doctors.
State epidemiologist, Dr Asema Msuega said 250 suspected cases of Lassa fever have been reported in the State while 45 cases have been confirmed.
Latest statistics released by the State epidemiology executive on lassa fever in the State indicates a surge in cases necessitating this assessment visit by the State Commissioner for Health and Human Services at State University Teaching Hospital Makurdi.

Most worrisome is the fact that health workers were greatly affected a development the heath commissioner says is an indication of human to human transmission which he says is due to intervention prevention lapses.
While giving an uodate on safety measures taken by the teaching hospital to contain the spread the Chief Medical Director Doctor Stephen Hwande urged residents to adhere to the safety protocols for infection control.
The State Government appreciated the dedicated health workers for their support and assured the general public of its commitment to that the disease is contained.
