Senator Iyabo Obasanjo, daughter of former President Olusegun Obasanjo, has declared her intention to contest the Ogun State governorship in 2027.
Speaking at a media parley with journalists in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital, Obasanjo said she is seeking a return to frontline politics with a promise of consistent, service-driven leadership.
She said while she aims to become Nigeria’s first female governor, she will support whoever emerges from the All Progressives Congress primary if she does not secure the ticket.

The Senator also called for politics to be treated as a full-time responsibility and urged greater unity to enable Ogun East produce a governor, nearly five decades after its creation.
Obasanjo, who has largely stayed off the political radar for about 15 years, confirmed her ambition during an interview on Frontline, a current affairs programme on Eagle 102.5 FM, saying she will run on the APC platform.
