Lagos State government has asked the management of Dowen College Lekki to put in place measures to discourage bullying and other forms of anti-social vices among students in the school.

The State government said the measures have become necessary to prevent future occurrence of the circumstances surrounding the death of 12 years old Sylvester Oromoni Jnr even before considering reopening the school for the second term academic session.

Other conditions given by the State government for the reopening of the school include fixing of the school governance gaps and regulatory issues that may impact on students welfare.

The State government noted that the lapses were discovered during a recent comprehensive investigation carried out on the school’s boarding facilities by the officials from the Ministry of Education which was done as part of efforts to carry out a proper appraisal of where the twelve year old student stayed before his death.

The State Commissioner for Education Folasade Adefisayo in a statement said despite the autopsy report by the Directorate of Public Prosecution(DPP) to the police which revealed that Sylvester’s death could not be linked to allegations of bullying within the school, the state government is not contemplating resumption of academic activities at the college until the conclusion of revalidation process of all existing boarding school facilities after midterm holiday.
