Following rising cases of criminal activities in Ondo State, security agencies on Monday carried out a show of force across major highways and surrounding bushes to flush out criminal elements.
The joint operation involved operatives of the Ondo State Security Network Agency, also known as Amotekun Corps, the Nigeria Police Force, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, the Nigerian Army, and personnel of the Department of State Services.
The operatives converged at the main gate of the Owena Cantonment in Akure before commencing the exercise.
While addressing journalists on Monday morning, the Commander of the Amotekun Corps in Ondo State, Adetunji Adeleye, said the exercise was aimed at ensuring a safe and secure environment for residents.
Adeleye explained that personnel would be deployed to strategic locations and flashpoints across the state, while security operatives would also comb the forests and surrounding areas to flush out criminal elements.
The Commissioner of Police in the state, Adebowale Lawal, who later joined the operation, assured residents that the Akure Airport and its environs remain safe for residents and intending air travellers.
