UK officials receive President Tinubu and his wife on arrival in UK for state visit

President Bola Tinubu and First Lady Oluremi Tinubu have arrived in the United Kingdom for a two-day state visit aimed at strengthening bilateral ties between both countries.

The President and his wife were received on arrival on Tuesday by United Kingdom officials, including the Nigerian Ambassador to UK, Muhammed Maidugu, marking the commencement of the historic visit.

The visit scheduled from March 18 to 19 will see President Tinubu hosted by their Majesties, King Charles III and Queen Camilla, at the Windsor Castle.

It is the first state visit by a Nigerian leader to the UK in 37 years.

During the visit, the President is expected to hold bilateral meeting with UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer at 10 Downing Street, with discussions focused on expanding cooperation in trade, investment, defence and cultural exchange.

Several agreements and Memoranda of Understanding are expected to be signed.

A key highlight of the trip will be the signing of £746 million financing deal between UK Export Finance and the Nigerian Ports Authority to support the rehabilitation of Lagos Port Complex and Tin Can Island Port.

President Tinubu will also participate in engagements showcasing Nigerian culture, including the Nigerian Modernism exhibition, and meet with business leaders as well as members of the Nigerians in the diaspora in the UK.

He is expected to return to Nigeria at the end of the visit after advancing strategic partnerships between both nations.
