In a strong show of commitment to personnel welfare, Nigeria’s Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Disu, has presented cheques worth ₦2,435,421,584.11 to 1,075 families of officers who died in active service.

The presentation, held at the Force Headquarters, Abuja, was carried out under the Group Life Assurance Scheme and the IGP Family Welfare Scheme.

The payment spans multiple policy years, 2018/2019, 2020/2021, 2021/2022, 2022/2023, 2024/2025 and 2025/2026, including long-overdue insurance claims recovered from previous years.

Speaking at the ceremony, Force Insurance Officer, ACP Lydia Ameh, said the disbursement reflects a deliberate push by the IGP to prioritize the welfare of officers and their families.

She disclosed that the funds also represent recoveries from long-standing insurance obligations, adding that strict measures have now been put in place to ensure compliance by insurers and prevent future delays.

Responding, IGP Disu described the moment as a solemn reminder of the ultimate sacrifice made by fallen officers.

He stressed that the gesture goes beyond financial compensation, calling it a moral obligation to honour the courage and service of officers who paid the supreme price.

The IGP assured that the Force is strengthening its welfare systems, improving administrative processes, and deploying technology-driven solutions to guarantee faster, more transparent claims processing.

The Nigeria Police Force says it remains resolute in supporting the families of its fallen heroes, noting that their sacrifices are critical to Nigeria’s peace, security and stability.
