Nigeria’s Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, has issued a strong warning to newly promoted senior officers, declaring zero tolerance for corruption, abuse of office, and indiscipline across the Force.

The warning was delivered during a decoration ceremony for newly elevated Assistant Inspectors-General and Commissioners of Police at the Force Headquarters in Abuja.

The IGP made it clear that promotion is not a reward, but a call to higher responsibility, placing the officers under increased scrutiny and demanding exemplary leadership.

He charged them to lead from the front, uphold discipline, and ensure that their personal conduct reflects integrity and strict adherence to the rule of law.

The Police Chief stressed that supervisors would be held accountable not only for operational outcomes but also for the conduct of officers under their command, warning that lax supervision fuels misconduct.

He further directed officers to adopt people-oriented policing, respect human rights, and respond effectively to public concerns, as part of ongoing reforms to rebuild trust and improve efficiency.

The IGP also announced a strategic leadership retreat for senior officers beginning March 24, aimed at strengthening professionalism and aligning the Force with modern policing standards.
