Bayelsa State Governor, Douye Diri has called on the Nigeria Football Federation to uphold fairness, transparency, and integrity in the conduct of its 2026 elective convention.
At the 2026 Extra-Ordinary General Assembly in Yenagoa, Chairman of the National Sports Commission, Shehu Dikko, also reiterates the Federal Government’s commitment to providing policy direction and institutional support to reposition football administration in Nigeria.

Governor Douye Diri, represented by his Deputy, Peter Akpe, declared the session open, noting that the meeting is convened to adopt a framework for the forthcoming 2026 elective convention.
Chairman of the National Sports Commission, Shehu Dikko, President of the Nigeria Football Federation, Ibrahim Gusau, and other stakeholders highlighted expectations ahead of the closed-door deliberations.
Observers from FIFA and the Confederation of African Football were also present, reinforcing the need for credibility and global best practices in the federation’s electoral process.
