Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission, ICPC, has arraigned former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, at the Federal High Court in Kaduna, North-West Nigeria.

The arraignment was conducted under heavy security presence as operatives restricted movement and barricaded major access roads leading to the court premises during the arraignment of the one-time FCT Minister.

The ICPC is prosecuting the former governor over allegations related to financial transactions, including deposits into a domiciliary account and alleged monetisation of earnings.

The case, presided over by Justice Rilwanu Aikawa, commenced at about 9:30 a.m. and lasted for more than three hours.

Journalists were barred from covering proceedings inside the courtroom, with no official reason provided for the restriction.

Counsel to the defendant, Ubong Akpan, briefed journalists on what transpired in court.

Also speaking, son of the former governor, Bello El-Rufai said the family remains confident in the rule of law and described their presence as a show of solidarity.

The court has adjourned the matter to March 31 for the hearing of the bail application.
