Ogun State Government has intensified efforts to curb recurring road accidents at the ever busy Sango Tollgate area with the demolition of illegal shanties and makeshift structures along the corridor.
The exercise targeted street trading activities and structures erected on road setbacks on both sides of the Ogun-Lagos border.
Leading the enforcement team, Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Environment, Kafayat Lawal, said the demolition followed several warnings and abatement notices issued to traders to vacate the area.
She explained that the continued presence of traders at the tollgate and under-bridge has become a major safety concern, often resulting in loss of lives and permanent injuries during accidents.
Lawal added that the government has provided an alternative trading location along Plaza Road in Sango in collaboration with the Ado-Odo Ota Local Government and traditional authorities.
She urged affected traders to relocate to the new site, warning that anyone who returns to the restricted areas will face the full wrath of the law.
The state government says the move is part of broader measures to restore order, improve traffic flow, and safeguard lives along the busy corridor.
