As part of measures to reduce the mortality in surgical cases due to inability to afford the procedures or late presentation the Benue State University Teaching Hospital Makurdi has initiated a subsidized surgical outreach for the poor.
Chief Medical Director Doctor Stephen Hwande flagged off the 2 day surgical outreach in Makurdi the State capital calling for more support to save lives.
Flagging off the two day surgical outreach at the Mohammadu Buhari mother and child hospital which is an annex of the State University teaching hospital Makurdi the Chief Medical Director Doctor Stephen Hwande applauded the life saving initiative for vulnerable patients.

About 10 subsidized surgeries had been successfully conducted so far with 40 other beneficiaries waiting their turns for hernia, Caesarean sections,cyst removal,appendectomy and simple tooth extraction surgeries.
A major highlight of the exercise for its partner the health medic support initiatives led by Faithfulness Agbo was the successful delivery of a baby girl.
The outreach covers 70% of surgical costs and will provide post surgery medications for beneficiaries.
