United Nigeria Airlines has suspended a staff member and apologised to a passenger with reduced mobility over an alleged incident at the Abuja Airport on March 30, 2026.
The airline said the incident happened during check-in for Flight UN0526 from Abuja to Yenagoa and involved Ms. Doris Akonanya. It said the report contains allegations of unprofessional conduct by the now-suspended staff member regarding the passenger’s condition.
In a statement signed by its Public Relations Officer, Chibuike Uloka, the airline said it takes the matter seriously and reaffirmed that the safety, dignity and well-being of all passengers remain its top priority.

United Nigeria Airlines said it maintains a zero-tolerance policy for misconduct, discrimination and abuse, and is committed to ensuring safe, respectful and accessible travel for all passengers, especially those with reduced mobility.

The airline added that it has been in direct contact with Ms. Akonanya and her family to address their concerns and provide support.
It also said a full investigation is ongoing, while steps are being taken to strengthen training, processes and oversight to prevent a recurrence.
