The pan-Yoruba socio-political organisation, Afenifere, has adopted the Social Democratic Party (SDP) as its preferred platform for members to contest in the 2027 general elections.
The decision was announced by Afenifere leader, Oladipo Olaitan, during the group’s quarterly meeting held in Ilesa.
The meeting focused on strategies to reposition the organisation and sustain its relevance ahead of the next electoral cycle, with members agreeing that the SDP provides a viable platform aligned with Afenifere’s core ideology of federalism and social welfarism.
While receiving national leaders of the party, Olaitan noted that the party’s blueprint reflects the aspirations of the Yoruba socio-political movement.
National Chairman of the SDP, Shehu Gabam, alongside the party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Adewole Adebayo, expressed confidence that the alliance would emerge as a strong political force in the 2027 elections.
The meeting drew Afenifere members from across the South-West, as well as representatives from Kwara and Kogi States, signaling a broader regional alignment ahead of the polls.
