Traders at the popular Oba Market in Benin City will soon begin to enjoy improved and modern facilities as reconstruction work at the market nears completion.

The contractor handling the project, which was destroyed by fire during the previous administration, has assured that the work will be completed within the next two weeks.

The contractor made this known during Governor Monday Okpebholo’s recent unscheduled visit to inspect the level and quality of work at the site.

Oba Market, located in the heart of Benin metropolis, was gutted by fire during the administration of Godwin Obaseki, leaving traders with significant losses.

During his electioneering campaign, Governor Monday Okpebholo promised to rebuild the market to meet modern standards.

One year and five months into his administration, the market is now wearing a new look. The reconstruction has transformed the facility into a modern commercial complex, designed to enhance trading activities and improve the business environment.

The upgraded market features about 450 open shops on the ground floor, fitted with solar-powered lighting, ceiling fans, and other modern facilities designed to enhance comfort and improve business activities for traders.

During the inspection of the project by Governor Monday Okpebholo, the contractor reiterated that the project is at an advanced stage and will be completed within a fortnight.

Governor Monday Okpebholo, accompanied by members of his entourage, was taken on a guided tour of the facility by the project site manager, as he inspected various sections of the reconstructed market.

The Governor expressed satisfaction with the pace and quality of work, reaffirming his administration’s commitment to delivering durable infrastructure across Edo State.

Governor Monday Okpebholo also commended President Bola Tinubu for his steadfast support to the state, noting that such collaboration continues to drive development efforts.
