Gunmen have killed three miners and injured another in Chwel Nyango community of Jos South Local Government Area of Plateau State, triggering a fresh security crackdown in the area.
The Plateau State Police Command says the attack occurred at about 9:20 p.m. this Saturday, April 3, 2026, when unidentified armed assailants ambushed the victims as they were returning from mining activities.
The injured victim is currently receiving treatment at a hospital.
Following the incident, Commissioner of Police, Bassey Ewah, has ordered intensified patrols and deployed additional security teams to track down the attackers.
As part of immediate preventive measures, the Command has announced a statewide ban on night grazing and night mining activities.

Authorities also reaffirmed that the existing ban on commercial motorcycles within the Jos-Bukuru metropolis remains in force.
In addition, operations of commercial tricycles, popularly known as Keke Napep, will be restricted on Sunday, April 5, as part of heightened security arrangements for the Easter period.
The Police Command extended condolences to families of the victims, assuring residents of renewed efforts to restore peace and bring those responsible to justice.
