Former President of the Senate Ahmad Lawan, has expressed gratitude following a grassroots fundraising initiative that has generated about N188 million in pledges and donations toward the purchase of his APC governorship nomination and expression of interest forms ahead of the 2027 Yobe State election.
Lawan, who currently represents Yobe North Senatorial District in the Senate, conveyed his appreciation in a statement, commending the Coalition of Yobe East Progressive Youths led by Mohammed Goni Yerima.
He described the effort as a demonstration of responsible citizenship and a new approach to grassroots political participation.
The fundraising event was held on Sunday in Damaturu.
Preliminary reports indicate that the funds were raised through pledges, cash donations, and bank transfers into a dedicated account.
Senator Lawan noted that the most touching aspect of the initiative was the large number of small donations ranging from N100 to N3,000 contributed by widows, mechanic apprentices, traders, and students.
He said the gesture reflects the people’s investment in a shared vision for an open, accountable, and transparent government in Yobe State.
According to him, his aspiration to govern the state is in response to the call of the people.
