Just As Nigeria continues to grapple with the challenges of power, Akwa Ibom State Governor, Umo Eno is taking the bull by the horns with a commitment to making power available to his people.
In a meeting where members of the State Executive Council, Local Government Chairmen and the State’s Technical Consultant on Power reviewed outcomes of the 2025 Power Summit and discussed key steps toward electricity sector reforms, Governor Eno said his administration is steadily implementing the roadmap developed during the September 2025 summit.
He pointed out that the state government has already taken bold and strategic steps that will soon begin to yield tangible results, while urging stakeholders and residents to remain patient and supportive.
The State Commissioner for Information, Aniekan Umanah, disclosed that the Akwa Ibom State Electricity Regulatory Commission has been established, adding that nominees for the commission will soon be forwarded to the State House of Assembly for screening and confirmation.
He stated that the government has no plans to sell the state-owned Ibom Power Company.
To fast-track implementation, Governor Eno has constituted a seven-member committee which has been given two weeks to submit its report.
The meeting marks another milestone in Akwa Ibom’s push toward a comprehensive and sustainable power sector reform.
