Speaker of the Kebbi State House of Assembly, Muhammad Usman Zuru, has died in an Egyptian hospital where he has been receiving treatment for an undisclosed illness.
Zuru passed away on Monday night after a period of ill health, during which he sought medical care abroad.
His death was confirmed by the Kebbi State Government, although official details about the nature of his illness remain limited.
The late Speaker, who represented Zuru Constituency, was widely regarded as a seasoned lawmaker and a key figure in the state’s legislative arm.
Further announcements regarding funeral arrangements are expected from the family and the state authorities.

Kebbi State Governor, Comrade Dr. Nasir Idris, Kauran Gwandu, has received with profound shock, deep sorrow, and a heavy heart the painful news of the passing of the Speaker of the Kebbi State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Muhammad Usman Zuru (Lifiddan Zuru), describing his death as a tragic and monumental loss to Kebbi State and the entire nation at large.
The late Speaker passed away on Monday, 6th April, 2026, at a hospital in Cairo, Egypt, where he had been receiving treatment following a prolonged illness. His death was officially confirmed by the Clerk of the Kebbi State House of Assembly, Alhaji Suleiman Shamaki.
In an emotion-laden condolence message, Governor Idris said he was devastated by the loss of a trusted ally, a committed lawmaker, and an outstanding leader whose devotion to duty, humility, wisdom, and dedication to the service of Kebbi State distinguished him as a true patriot.
The Governor described the late Speaker as a pillar of legislative stability and democratic governance, as well as a dependable partner in the collective effort to advance the development of Kebbi State.
Governor Idris stated that the death of Rt. Hon. Muhammad Usman Zuru has created a painful vacuum in the leadership of the state, stressing that the late Speaker’s calm disposition, maturity in handling state affairs, and unwavering commitment to the unity and progress of Kebbi would remain indelible in the hearts of the people.
He also described the late Speaker as a man of honour, integrity, and uncommon loyalty who served the state with distinction and left behind a legacy of selfless public service.
The Governor added that Kebbi State has lost one of its finest sons at a time when his experience, counsel, and statesmanship were most needed.
He lamented that the loss is not only personal to the government and people of Kebbi State, but also a painful blow to the State House of Assembly, the political class, and all who had the privilege of knowing and working with him.
Governor Idris prayed to Almighty Allah to forgive the shortcomings of the deceased, grant him Aljannatul Firdaus, and give his family, the Kebbi State House of Assembly, the people of Zuru Emirate, and the entire people of Kebbi state the strength and fortitude to bear this irreparable loss.
The late Rt. Hon. Muhammad Usman Zuru, born on 5th April, 1970, is survived by his wife and five children.
