The New Masquerade Comic Act David Ofor “Clarus” Dies At 85

If you ever got watch the popular 1980 comedy soap opera “The New Masquerade” which was broadcast on the network of the Nigerian Television Authority NTA; the actor who played the role of “Clarus” the house boy in the sitcom is dead.

The actor Davis Ofor aged 85 who hailed from Abia State South East Nigeria reportedly died on Monday April 6th 2026.

He was said to have been visually impaired for several years before he was diagnosed of prostate cancer which he had been treating until his demise.

Clarus, the wide-eyed hilarious houseboy in The New Masquerade, won the hearts of Nigerians with his role which he played so well.

Clarus alongside his colleagues the late James Iroha (Giringory) and Chika Okpala (Zebrudaya) starred in the soap opera “The New Masquerade”.

In 1989 Clarus had to quit acting and comedy to commit his life and time to Church ministry and he was ordained at the Aetherius Temple in London before he returned to Nigeria; where he taught spiritual lessons and karma from his location in Aba, Abia State
