The Catholic Diocese of Abakaliki has confirmed the death of its Bishop, Most Reverend Peter Nworie Chukwu.
A statement by the Vicar General, Reverend Father Donatus Oluwa Chukwu, says the Bishop died on Friday, April 10, 2026.
Sources in Abakaliki told AIT that the cleric passed on at an undisclosed missionary hospital outside Ebonyi State.
The cause of death was not disclosed by church authorities.
Bishop Chukwu, aged 60, was born on November 5, 1965, ordained a priest on July 3, 1994, and consecrated as the third Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Abakaliki on August 19, 2021.
The Diocese has called for prayers for the repose of his soul and strength for the Church, adding that burial arrangements will be announced later.
