The remains of a devoted community and church leader, the late Akpan Gilbert, have been laid to rest in his hometown of Ikot Ekop, Mkpat Enin Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State.
It was a solemn yet dignified farewell on Saturday April 11, as family, friends, and well-wishers from across the country gathered in Ikot Ekop, Mkpat Enin Local Government Area, to pay their last respects to the late Akpan Gilbert, who passed on at the age of 85.
The funeral service, officiated by the Methodist Church Nigeria, Ikot Ekop Circuit in the Diocese of Ikot Abasi, drew a large congregation of mourners.
In a sermon, the Archbishop of Ikot Ekpene Archdiocese, Etim Ekong emphasized the importance of accountability and purposeful living, urging the faithful to live lives worthy of emulation.
Members of the Men’s Fellowship, where the deceased was a committed and respected member, led tributes in honour of a man widely described as selfless and dedicated to both church and community service.
Following the funeral service, the remains of the late Akpan Gilbert were conveyed to his family compound for interment, marking the final rites of passage.
In a further tribute, a golf tournament organised by one of his sons, Inemesit Gilbert, was held at Ibom Hotel and Golf Resort in Uyo, celebrating the life and legacy of the deceased.
The late Akpan Gilbert, who died on January 11 this year , is remembered for his unwavering commitment to faith, service, and humanity.
