Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, has issued a stern warning against illegal mining operations across the state, linking the practice to rising insecurity.
The Governor is also urging local government chairmen, as well as traditional and religious leaders, to remain vigilant and provide timely intelligence to security agencies.
Duguri community in Alkaleri Local Government Area has become a hotspot for insecurity, heavily fueled by illicit mining activities.
The area recently suffered a massive security breach where over fifty persons were abducted. Thankfully, all victims were successfully rescued through a coordinated operation with security forces.
This prompted Governor Bala Mohammed to pay a sympathy visit to the rescued victims, who are currently receiving medical attention at the Duguri Primary Health Care Centre.
Investigations reveal that most of the victims are non-indigenes from neighbouring states who were lured to the area by illegal mining operations.
Addressing journalists after his visit, Governor Mohammed vowed that his administration will crush all forms of illegal mining in the state.
He commending the efforts of security agencies in addressing insecurity in the area, lurged local government chairmen, as well as traditional and religious leaders, to intensify vigilance and also appreciated the timely intervention of the Presidency; assuring continued collaboration to ensure the safety and security of citizens.
