ADC youth protesters at INEC office in Lagos State

Some angry youth members of the African Democratic Congress, ADC have stormed the state office of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC in Lagos with a warning to the electoral body to recuse itself from interpreting judicial issues emanating from the court concerning the party.

Bearing placards with various inscriptions and led by the National Assistant Youth Leader, South-West Zone, Olusi Babatunde, the group presented their demands to the Resident Electoral Officer, REC in Lagos state, Professor Abayomi Salami for onward delivery to the National Chairman, Professor Joash Amupitan.

According to the protesters, their action follows non-response to the 72-hour ultimatum given to the INEC Chairman to absorb the commission of alleged complicity in undermining the David Mark and Rauf Aregbesola leadership of the ADC.

The protesters say the de-recognition of the David Mark-led ADC by INEC was despite the party’s successful national executive committee meeting in September 2025.

They accused the electoral umpire of usurping the powers of the Judiciary to interpret party matters before the court.

Meanwhile, the INEC spokesperson in Lagos State, Taiwo Gbadegesin who received the petition on behalf of the Resident Electoral Commissioner, commended the protesters for their conduct as it is in line with their constitutional responsibilities to demand for justice no matter what.
