The National Human Rights Commission has urged police officers in the FCT to adopt rights-based policing in line with the rule of law and international standards.
At a town hall in Abuja, Executive Secretary Tony Ojukwu SAN, highlighted the importance of the new Police Regulations 2025 and existing laws like the ACJA and Anti-Torture Act in promoting professionalism and accountability.He stressed that respecting human rights builds public trust and improves effective policing, while also calling for stronger collaboration among security agencies.

The FCT Commissioner of Police commended the initiative, reaffirming the command’s commitment to protecting citizens’ rights and disciplining erring officers.
The dialogue also focused on improving legal compliance, adopting modern investigation methods, strengthening accountability, and enhancing community engagement.
