Twenty-eight victims have been rescued and a suspected baby factory syndicate dismantled by operatives of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Lagos State Command, in the Badagry area.

Two suspects were arrested during the intelligence-led operation.

The Lagos State Commandant of the NSCDC, Adedotun Keshinro, who paraded the suspects before journalists, said the arrests followed a three-week surveillance operation.

He explained that the suspects allegedly lured victims through social media platforms, targeting pregnant women and persuading them to sell their babies.

In total, 17 heavily pregnant women, one adult male, and 10 children, including infants, were rescued during the raid.

Items recovered from the scene include pumping machines and a generator set, among other exhibits.

The Commandant described the act as barbaric and inhuman, stressing that the suspects will face the full weight of the law.

He added that the suspects have been handed over to National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) for further investigation and possible prosecution.

Keshinro said the success of the operation aligns with directives from the NSCDC Comptroller-General, Abubakar Audi, mandating all state commands to deploy technology-driven intelligence in combating crime nationwide.
