Kano State Governor, Abba Yusuf, has transmitted the name of Murtala Sule Garo to the State House of Assembly for screening and confirmation as new Deputy Governor.
The development comes three weeks after his former deputy, Aminu Gwarzo resigned following commencement of impeachment proceedings against him for alleged “gross misconduct.”
In a statement released by Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Mustapha Muhammad, the nomination is said to be in line with Section 191(3) of the 1999 Constitution (as amended), which empowers the Governor to nominate a Deputy Governor where a vacancy exists.
Mutala Garo became the candidate of choice after weeks of wide consultations with key stakeholders.
Governor Yusuf has requested the Assembly to grant the necessary approval for Garo’s nomination.
The 48-year old Murtala Sule Garo is a seasoned political administrator with over two decades of service in both elective and appointed positions.
He has previously served as State Organising Secretary of his party, Special Adviser to Kano State Governor and elected Chairman of Kabo Local Government.
He also served as State Chairman of ALGON, Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, and Deputy Governorship Candidate of the APC in the 2023 general elections.
Mutala Garo’s nomination is part of efforts to strengthen governance and sustain effective service delivery in Kano state.
