President Bola Tinubu has appointed new chairmen for the National Examinations Council (NECO) and the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE), alongside other key appointments in the education sector.
The appointments were disclosed in a statement issued on Wednesday by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.
According to the statement, Professor Modupe Adeola Adelabu was appointed Chairman of the Governing Board of the National Examinations Council, while Professor Ibrahim Dantani Wushishi was retained as Registrar.
President Tinubu also appointed Professor Babatunde Salako as Chairman of the National Board for Technical Education, and reappointed the Executive Secretary, Professor Idris M. Bugaje, for a second and final term of five years.
In addition, Engr. Dr Bongfa Binfa was named Rector of the Federal Polytechnic N’yak-Shendam for a single term of five years, succeeding Dr Mukaila Zakari Ya’u, whose tenure ended in March 2026.
Dr Binfa holds a PhD in Mechanical Engineering from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia and previously served as Deputy Rector (Academic) at the Federal Polytechnic of Oil and Gas, Bonny.
Meanwhile, the President renewed the tenure of Professor Chinwe Veronica Anunobi as Director-General of the National Library of Nigeria for a final term of five years.
The Presidency said the renewal would ensure continuity in ongoing reforms, including the completion of the National Library headquarters project in Abuja and the implementation of its 2025–2030 strategic plan.
Professor Anunobi, who was first appointed in September 2021, has overseen several initiatives aimed at repositioning the National Library as a technology-driven institution.
President Tinubu expressed confidence that the appointments would strengthen institutional capacity and enhance service delivery across the education sector.
