Troops of Operation Enduring Peace have neutralized two armed gunmen during a coordinated ambush in Barkin Ladi Local Government Area of Plateau State.
The operation was carried out Tuesday around 7:49pm near Doruwa Babuje in the Marit General area, following credible intelligence on the movement of suspected criminals accused of terrorizing communities.
According to military sources, the troops engaged the gunmen in a firefight, killing two of them, while others escaped into nearby bushes under the cover of darkness.
Items recovered from the scene include a locally fabricated rifle, five rounds of 7.62 by 39 millimetre ammunition, a cutlass, a jackknife, and a mobile phone.
Troops have since maintained a strong presence in Marit and Lajam communities, as efforts continue to track down the fleeing suspects and ensure the safety of residents.
Operation Enduring Peace says it remains committed to protecting lives and property, and has urged members of the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to security agencies.
