The Federal Government, through the Ministry of Livestock Development has intensified efforts to combat animal diseases by deploying a Tsetse Fly surveillance and ground control team to Kogi State.
The initiative is aimed at curbing the spread of diseases transmitted by Tsetse flies.
The prevalence of Tsetse flies has adversely affected livestock production in Nigeria, making it imperative for the government to step in with preventive and control measures.
Leading the delegation to Kogi State, team Lead of the Tsetse Fly Surveillance and Ground Control programme, Adaji Abdulkadiri, says the intervention was necessary to safeguard livestock.
The team is conducting research and field operations in six local government areas of Kogi State.
The team reaffirmed government’s commitment to addressing the longstanding challenge posed by tsetse flies.
The Kogi State Government on it part emphasised that tackling livestock diseases requires in-depth research and sustained intervention,

With sensitization campaign ongoing in various communities, the team also visited cattle markets in Kogi State, fumigated critical areas and handed over some materials to community leaders to help prevent diseases affecting livestock production in the country.
