Zamfara State Government is to begin immediate rehabilitation of 20 public schools within the next four months following a targeted inspection of facilities in the state capital.
Governor Dauda Lawal gave the directive after what he described as the unacceptable state of classrooms and infrastructure in Gusau, the state capital.
It is the Governor’s assessment tour of the state of public schools in Gusau. The entourage visited the Government Girls Day Secondary School Birnin Ruwa, Government Girls Day Secondary School Galadima, Government Girls Day Secondary School Sarkin Kudu, and Government Girls Day Secondary School Unguwan Zabarma.
Observing the state of infrastructure and facilities, the Governor described the situation seen as unfortunate and not conducive for learning.
To address infrastructure challenges, particularly water supply in Gusau, the Governor also visited the Gusau Water Works where he expressed dissatisfaction with the obsolete facilities.
The order for immediate remedial actions on the facilities are indicative of the importance the Dauda Lawal administration gives to social infrastructure
