The Defence Headquarters has inaugurated a General Court Martial to try 36 serving military personnel over alleged breaches of national security, including mutiny aimed at overthrowing the government.
In a statement signed by the Director of Defence Information, Major General Samaila Uba, the inauguration is described as a significant step toward reinforcing discipline, accountability, and the Armed Forces’ commitment to safeguarding national integrity and constituted authority.

The statement notes that proceedings of the court martial will be conducted with the highest standards of fairness and impartiality, with strict adherence to due process, ensuring justice is served without fear or favour.
It adds that all cases will be handled within the extant legal framework of the military justice system.
The Defence Headquarters further reaffirms its resolve to uphold professionalism, discipline, and the rule of law, while ensuring that the rights of all personnel are respected and the principles of fair hearing strictly observed.
