A 31- year old man, Cole Tomas Allen is in custody after being arrested for shooting at an event being attended by United States President, Donald Trump.
A secret service agent was shot, but is said by the American leader to be unhurt at a press conference later held at the White House.
President Trump and some members of his cabinet were attending the White House Correspondents Dinner at the Sheraton Hotel in Washington D.C, the venue of the incident when the shots rang out.
President Trump and First Lady Melanie were evacuated from the High Table within seconds.
The suspect is to be arraigned on Monday.
This is the third incident at which an attempt is made to shoot the American leader.
During Trump’s campaign to return to the White House, an assassination attempt was made on him at Butler, Pennsylvania, during which his ear was grazed with a supporter at the rally killed.
