The Governors-backed Peoples Democratic Party, PDP camp says the party is currently without a National Working Committee, NWC, following the Supreme Court judgement.
The faction also announced that the Board of Trustees, BoT will convene an emergency meeting on Sunday ahead of National Executive Committee meeting scheduled for Monday to determine the party’s next line of action.
The faction announced this after an expanded PDP National Caucus meeting in Abuja on Thursday.
The BoT Secretary and former Niger State Governor, Babangida Aliyu, explains that the Supreme Court nullified the November 2025 convention that produced the Tanimu Turaki-led NWC of the party, while also reaffirming the suspension of Kamaldeen Ajibade, Samuel Anyanwu, and other members of the party who had long been suspended and expelled from the PDP.
The former Niger State Governor further explains that, by implication, the ruling also invalidated the March 30, 2026 convention that produced the Abdulrahman Mohammed-led NWC, which has the backing of the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike.
Following the Supreme Court judgement, the Nyesom Wike-backed PDP led by Abdulrahaman Mohammed has claimed victory but the camp of the Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde argue that the apex court’s upholding of the Court of Appeal’s suspension of Ajibade, Anyanwu, and some other members effectively leaves the PDP currently without a clearly defined leadership structure.
Reacting earlier, the Board of Trustees Chairman, Adolphus Wabara, in a statement, said the Board has immediately assumed leadership of the PDP as a Constitutional step to promote reconciliation, stabilise the party, and restore its political strength.
Former Niger State Governor, Babangida Aliyu, also says that the party is opened to genuine reconciliation and urged those who have left the party to return. He assured PDP members contesting on the platform of the party that issues will be settled before the scheduled activities for the election as he assured them and Nigerians of the party’s victory in the upcoming elections.
In attendance were the Governor of Oyo State, Seyi Makinde, Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed, Tanimu Turaki, Umar Damagum, Members of the National Assembly, former Minister of Information and National Orientation Jerry Gana, State Chairmen among others.
