The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP has dismissed claims of a leadership vacuum following the recent ruling by the Supreme Court, insisting that its National Chairman, Abdulrahman Mohammed and National Secretary, Samuel Anyanwu, remain in charge.

The Party’s National Publicity Secretary, Jungudo Mohammed who said this at a briefing in Abuja on friday also says the tenure of Adolphus Wabara as Chairman of the Board of Trustees, BoT of the party had expired before the current crisis, warning any contrary claims would no longer be tolerated.

The Party accused Tanimu Turaki, Adolphos Wabara, Ini Ememobong and some other members of misinterpreting the supreme court judgment and spreading falsehoods on the judgment delivered on thursday.

Jungudo clarified that the thursday’s ruling only invalidated the Ibadan Convention and dismissed the appeal filed by the Turaki-led National Working Committee for lacking merit, stressing that the judgment made no reference to the suspension or expulsion of any party official and that remains the sole substance of the judgment, contrary to the false narratives being circulated.

He further stressed that the issue of suspension or expulsion was never before the Federal High Court, the Court of Appeal nor the Supreme Court and it was neither canvassed nor formed part of the questions for determination at any level of adjudication.

The PDP says its Leadership structure remains intact, lawful and fully operational under its National Chairman, Abdulrahman Mohammed and its National Secretary, Samuel Anyanwu and there is no vacuum, obstruction or absence of leadership to justify any interim takeover.

Mohammed describes contrary claims as a desperate attempt by a group to twist the facts of the judgment and mislead the public, he alleges that the same individuals ignored valid court orders during the Ibadan convention and are again attempting to destabilise the PDP despite the Supreme Court Judgement.

While the PDP also insists that the recognised leadership of the BoT is the one led by Senator Mao Ohuabunwa, it urges the media and the public to disregard what it describes as propaganda and insists there is no faction in the PDP.
