Two Killed In Calabar–Itu Highway Crash

The Nigeria Police in Cross River State Police has confirmed the death of two persons following a fatal road accident involving a container truck and a coaster bus along the Calabar–Itu Highway.

The bus was reportedly conveying passengers believed to be students of the Cross River State University when the crash occurred at the Ikot Okon axis of the highway late Thursday night.

Police say the accident involved a head-on collision between the coaster bus and the container truck.

In a statement, the Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Sunday Eitokpah, confirmed that one victim died at the scene, while another who sustained severe injuries died in the early hours of Friday.

Several other passengers sustained varying degrees of injuries.

Police operatives, alongside emergency responders, evacuated victims and restored traffic along the busy highway.

The injured were taken to the University of Calabar Teaching Hospital for treatment, while the bodies of the deceased were deposited at the hospital morgue.

Authorities say the driver of the container truck fled the scene, and efforts are ongoing to apprehend him as investigations continue.
