An alert has been issued in Zamfara state urging residents living in flood-prone areas to cooperate as government begins a reconstruction of waterways responsible for recurring floods across the state.

Governor Dauda Lawal, while inspecting communities affected by recent torrential rainfall within the Gusau metropolitan area, says the state will not back down until all necessary safeguards are in place for impacted communities

The second major downpour of 2026 in Gusau and surrounding areas has mirrored the first—hitting with a fierce intensity that has left several neighbourhoods submerged.

Governor Dauda Lawal was on the ground to survey the damage. While assessing the impact, he issued a stern warning to residents to stop erecting structures on waterways. He noted that as the rains intensify, these obstructions are becoming a direct threat to public safety

The inspection tour wasn’t limited to flood zones. The governor also checked progress at the Gusau International Airport and the Hajj Camp. Both projects are in the final stretch, racing toward completion before the airlifting of Zamfara pilgrims begins in just two weeks.

The government insists the projects are not just about infrastructure—they are about fulfilling the promises made to the people of Zamfara to rebuild and secure the state.
