Troops of Sector 2, Operation FANSAN YAMMA have neutralized nine terrorists, including two key kingpins, and recovered arms and logistics during a series of operations conducted between May 1 and 3, 2026, across Katsina and Zamfara States.
In a statement, Acting Deputy Director, Army Public Relations, 8 Division, Sector 2 Operation FANSAN YAMMA, Olaniyi Osoba, confirmed that troops of the Forward Operating Base Fudma, Katsina State, encountered terrorists along the Turare Yantumaki Road in Dutsinma Local Government Area while on a fighting patrol.
During the ensuing firefight, four terrorists were neutralized.
Troops recovered two AK-47 rifles with magazines, ammunition, two motorcycles, seven mobile phones, and the sum of one hundred and fifty-three thousand naira.
In a separate operation in Zamfara State between May 2 and 3, troops of the Forward Operating Base Bagega carried out a high-risk mission in Anka Local Government Area, neutralizing seven terrorists, including two notorious kingpins identified as Anaruwa and Gomina.
Anaruwa was reported to be the younger brother of a known terrorist commander.
According to the statement, during the initial operation on May 2, troops engaged terrorists along the Bagega–Anka Road, forcing four armed fighters on motorcycles to retreat and abandon their bikes.
The terrorists later regrouped and launched a counterattack on the base.
With reinforcement from additional combat teams and support from precision airstrikes by the Air Component, troops successfully repelled the assault.
A second wave of eight terrorists on four motorcycles was engaged, resulting in the neutralization of three fighters.
Two AK-47 rifles and seven motorcycles were recovered during the operation.
On May 3, troops conducting follow-up operations encountered two additional terrorists on motorbikes in the same area and neutralized them.
However, the military confirmed that one soldier lost his life in the line of duty during the operation.
