The Plateau State Police Command has confirmed a deadly attack by yet-to-be-identified gunmen on Nding Susut Community in Fan District of Barkin Ladi Local Government Area.
The incident, which occurred Tuesday night, left five persons dead, including four women and a nine-year-old boy.
Three other female victims sustained injuries and are currently receiving treatment at the General Hospital, where the bodies of the deceased have been deposited.
Police say a team led by the Divisional Police Officer in Barkin Ladi was immediately mobilized to the scene, and the area has since been secured with normalcy gradually returning.
Commissioner of Police, Bassey Ewah, has condemned the attack and extended condolences to the affected families and the community.
He has also ordered the deployment of additional tactical teams and operational assets to the area to strengthen security, enhance patrols, and support intelligence gathering.
The Command says it is working with other security agencies and community leaders to track down the perpetrators, as investigations are ongoing.
Residents have been urged to remain calm, law-abiding, and to provide useful information to security agencies to aid ongoing efforts to restore lasting peace.
